Ottawa – Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has lifted the boil water advisory affecting approximately 200 addresses in the Blackburn Hamlet area. The advisory was in effect for all the addresses on the following streets:

  • Glen Park Drive
  • Birchtree Park
  • Compata Way
  • Fairglen Mews

Water sample results indicate the water is safe for all consumption purposes.

The advisory was issued because some of the water samples did not meet all the established drinking water standards. Construction work in the area has been ongoing since September, and temporary water lines were put in place the week of September 22 to maintain water distribution to addresses impacted by the work. During the construction activities, water tests are performed throughout the temporary system to assure water quality is maintained.

It is important to note that water system maintenance and repairs such as flushing activities can disturb sediments that are often present in watermain pipes. This may result in reddish brown or yellow coloured tap water, but discoloured water is not harmful.

Residents are advised to do the following:

•           Run cold water faucets for five minutes before using the water.

•           Run drinking fountains for five minutes before using the water.

•           Flush all garden hoses by running cold water through them for five minutes.

•           Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.

•           Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45°Celsius (normal setting is 60°Celsius)
