Westbound traffic along Queen Street will be detoured north on Elgin to Wellington, west on Wellington to O’Connor, south on O’Connor to Queen. Detour signs will be posted. Transit services will also be detoured. For more information please visit octranspo.com.
This work is being done to facilitate the connection of the new watermain on Queen Street to the existing watermain on Bay Street, which will ensure the continued reliability and quality of the downtown water supply. The existing watermain was installed in 1874, making it one of the oldest in the City.
The Queen Street Watermain Rehabilitation Project is an Ottawa on the Move project. Ottawa on the Move is about keeping our community and economy moving forward through strategic investments in a number of transportation, water, and sewer projects to build a better city and create jobs.
With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use other alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
