Finance and Economic Development Committee members were briefed today on the status of the Confederation Line. City staff provided a project update with respect to critical elements required to achieve Revenue Service Availability (RSA), namely, ongoing testing and commissioning activities, fleet availability for service requirements and end-to-end practice runs to test the system capabilities.
Members were also informed that the Ready for Rail campaign launched a 360-degree tour of Lyon Station in order to help transit customers familiarize themselves with an example of one of the new stations prior to the launch of LRT service. The 360-degree tour can be accessed here.
The membership of the French Language Services Advisory Committee was also finalized for Council’s approval. Councillor Cloutier is proposed to sit as the Councillor Liaison.
The Committee approved changes to the Terms of Reference. The Member Services Sub-Committee, which has not met in a number of years, will be eliminated and its responsibilities transferred to the Finance and Economic Development Committee. In the past, the Information Technology Sub-Committee has made recommendations regarding the Information Technology Services’ budgets to Council. This practice was confirmed.
Detailed appointments are proposed for the membership of 17 Business Improvement Areas Boards of Management, for the 2018-2022 Term of Council. Three BIAs not listed are in rural wards and will be presented to the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee for consideration on February 22, 2019.
Attendance at two conferences was also discussed. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Annual Conference will be held in Ottawa from August 18-21, 2019. Since there are no travel, accommodation or per diem expenses associated with this conference, any Councillor may attend, in addition to the Mayor and Councillor Brockington, who was previously appointed by Council to serve as the City’s representative.
Further, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual Conference and Trade Show, will be held between May 30 and June 2, 2019 in Quebec City. It is proposed that Councillors Blais, Hubley, Kavanagh and McKenney attend, in addition to the Mayor and Councillor Tierney, who was previously appointed by Council to serve as the City’s representative.
