Food Aid Day, Mayor’s Rural Expo team up again to purchase local beef for Food Bank

Ottawa – Mayor Jim Watson and the Ottawa Food Bank Executive Director Michael Maidment are co-hosting the Food Aid Day barbecue and breakfast and the Mayor’s Rural Expo on June 6. Food Aid Day is now in its 10th year and was co-founded by the Ottawa Food Bank and CFRA – which also broadcasts the Food Aid Day Radiothon.

The money collected from the event and the CFRA radiothon is used to purchase and process beef from local farmers to help the Ottawa Food Bank feed those in need. Last year, the event and CFRA Food Aid Day Radiothon raised $160,000.

An exposition of rural organizations, festivals and artisans will be located both inside Ottawa City Hall and Marion Dewar Plaza for the entire event.

Access to the event is free and tickets for both the $5 pancake breakfast and $10 barbecue lunch can be purchased on-site, with all proceeds going to the Ottawa Food Bank.
