EnviroCentre’s Carbon 613 program has released their Business Energy and Emission Profile (BEEP) for Ottawa, an in-depth exploration of emissions and energy use in our city. This interactive data visualization tool will help Ottawa businesses and organizations gain insight on their environmental footprint as we work together to take positive action on climate change and develop a more sustainable economy through energy and fuel savings.

Supported in part by the City’s Energy Evolution Catalyst Projects program, Carbon 613’s work supports our vision of Ottawa as a thriving city powered by clean, renewable energy. The goal of the City’s energy strategy is to transition Ottawa away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy sources, working in collaboration with local partners to advance energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy generation initiatives. Projects like BEEP help give us a detailed picture of what is needed in the broader community to achieve progress on being a cleaner and greener city.

Carbon 613 is a made-in-Ottawa, target-based sustainability program for businesses, of which the City is a member. As part of its membership, the City has committed to setting a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction target and to tracking and reporting our annual emissions. The City continues to work on lowering our energy emissions through a variety of initiatives, including converting 7000 streetlights to LED, new controls for building environmental systems, light rail transit, improved cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and urban forest management.
