The City of Ottawa’s Office of Emergency Management have begun to scale back the flood emergency and recovery operations as the cleanup and recovery is progressing very well. As a result, the Emergency Community Support Centre (ECSC) at the Constance Bay Community Centre will transition its on-site operations, effective at noon today, to the City’s Client Service Centres and 3-1-1. The ECSC has seen a significant steady decline of visitors over the past several days.
The special collection for household hazardous waste will take place on Wednesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 1 – which is also the final day of the daily collection of waste and debris. Waste and recycling collection will then resume to its regular schedule. Residents with hazardous waste can bring their waste to the regularly scheduled household hazardous waste depots. The schedule can be found at ottawa.ca/HHW.
While the City moves to normalize its operations, the Office of Emergency Management will continue to lead the multi-departmental team to monitor the situation. Residents will still find comprehensive recovery information on ottawa.ca, Services can be accessed through the Service Ottawa website, 3-1-1, and any City of Ottawa Client Service Centre – especially the West Carleton Client Service Centre, 5670 Carp Road.
Enhanced access to pick-up and drop-off of water test kits will continue for West Carleton residents with the Lighthouse Restaurant and Grocery (655 Bayview) who has kindly offered to host this service daily until the end of the week. The last drop off opportunity will be 9 a.m. on Friday. For the regular schedule and the pick-up and drop-off locations in Ottawa, please visit ottawa.ca/wellwatertesting.
This emergency response and recovery efforts was truly a community effort. It involved City staff, community groups and associations, and residents who generously donated their time, sweat, funds, and items to help with the flood-recovery effort.
This community response exemplified Ottawa’s long-standing reputation of being a large city with a small-town heart – ready to rally support behind those in-need.
