Ottawa– The City’s Community and Protective Services (CPS) Committee today approved its 2017 draft budget, which will be considered at City Council on Wednesday, December 14.
The CPS budget calls for increased spending on affordable housing initiatives in 2017, investing over $103 million in housing services, including funding for the 10-year Housing and Homelessness Plan. This year’s budget also introduces the EquiPass, which provides low-income residents with a new affordable transit pass option at a discount of 50 per cent on the regular adult monthly fare.
Other CPS budget highlights for 2017 include: the addition of 24 new paramedics and five more emergency response vehicles for the Paramedic Service; a $610,000 investment in base funding for non-profit social service providers who receive Community Funding; $5.7 million for the renewal of parks; $16.1 million for recreation facilities; and record investments in cultural funding.
