Ottawa– Several of Canada’s Olympic athletes preparing to depart for Rio have a connection to Ottawa, whether they call the nation’s capital home, or they have trained or studied here. Ottawa residents are encouraged to cheer for their local athletes as they watch the games.
An up-to-date list of the athletes who have been selected to represent Canada in the Games can be found on Team Canada’s website.
“We are so proud of our local Olympians,” said Mayor Watson. “They’ll be representing all Canadians at the Games, but as far as we’re concerned, they’re representing Ottawa, our communities, our families, friends and neighbours. We’ll be cheering them on this August.”
The 2016 Olympic Summer Games will take place from August 5 to 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“They have put in years of dedicated training in pursuit of this chance to compete on the world stage,” said Councillor Jody Mitic, Ottawa’s Sports Commissioner. “I wish them the very best in Rio.”
