Heritage Day celebrates Ottawa’s historic places made for play

Ottawa – From beaches to boardwalks; fields to fairgrounds; and pools to parkland, the theme for Heritage Day at City Hall is celebrating historic places made for play. Mayor Jim Watson and Councillor Mark Taylor, Chair of the Community and Protective Services Committee, will join City staff and representatives from the Council of Heritage Organization in Ottawa to proclaim Heritage Day and to present the official proclamation to Michael McLellan, President, Board of Directors, Muséoparc Vanier Museoparc.

Heritage Day 2014 includes more than 45 showcase exhibitors and displays featuring the many services provided by local heritage organizations, public programs and special initiatives, as well as professional development and volunteer opportunities.

Heritage Day in Ottawa is an annual event that encourages residents to explore their local heritage, to get involved with stewardship and advocacy groups, and to visit museums, archives, and places of architectural significance. It is a chance to recognize the contributions of the many dedicated volunteers who promote heritage conservation and public education about the city’s history.
